NASHVILLE, TENN.—(Aug. 25, 2008)—The Frist Center for the Visual Arts in downtown Nashville is recruiting enthusiastic local college and university students to participate in its College Advisory Committee, which helps shape museum activities and programs for young adults. Students, who are selected through an application process, play an active role in planning events and marketing museum exhibitions and programs.
Knowledge of art, marketing and public relations is helpful but not necessary. More important is enthusiasm, creativity and a willingness to offer advice and opinions. Committee members meet several times during the school year to advise Frist Center staff on activities relating to college students and to help plan special events to attract college-age visitors and members to the museum.
Since its inception in 2005, the College Advisory Committee has served as a sounding board for promotional ideas, created a special event just for college students and offered numerous suggestions, one of which resulted in the ongoing College Night program that offers free admission for college students each Thursday evening from 5–9 p.m.
“For the past three years, it has been gratifying to meet so many interested and engaged college students in Middle Tennessee and beyond,” says Ellen Pryor, director of communications at the Frist Center. “In addition to their active participation in developing activities for their peers, this group has become tremendously important in helping us spread the word about the Frist Center on college campuses. It has also been a great opportunity for students from various campuses to meet each other.”
Easy Application Process College representatives from Middle Tennessee are selected by Frist Center staff members, based on review of student applications. To receive an application, interested students should email Emily Harper (eharper@fristcenter.org) or Karen Browne (kbrowne@fristcenter.org). Deadline for application submission is Friday, Oct. 10, 2008. The first meeting for the group is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008.
College Advisory Committee Benefits Those chosen for the panel will receive a year’s complimentary Frist Center membership, invitations to all member activities, discounts and free admission to most events and programs. College Advisory Committee members will also receive a supply of guest passes good for free adult admission any time the Frist Center is open.
