Autumn 2005 Exhibitions
Release Date: 8/5/2005

Autumn in the Midsouth can be beautiful – the sky becomes crisp and clear blue, the leaves on the trees change from green to a spectrum of fiery red, orange and yellows and cool breezes from the North help chase out any remaining summer humidity. As this time of year, it is only fitting that the Frist Center present a selection of works celebrating the inherent beauty of nature. Hudson River School: Masterworks from the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, on view from September 23, 2005 – January 8, 2006, features 55 masterpieces by artists such as Thomas Cole, Frederic Church and Albert Bierstadt, artists who were fascinated by the glorious landscapes they found near the Hudson River and Niagara Falls and in the Yosemite Valley.

On view concurrently with the show from the Wadsworth Atheneum are an installation, fitted specifically for the Gordon Contemporary Artists Project Gallery, by artist Deborah Aschheim and two educational exhibitions that complement the Hudson River School show. Opening later in the season on October 15, Murano: Glass from the Olnick Spanu Collection is a selection of Venetian glass that represents the evolution of the art of glass-making through the 20th century. This exhibition will remain on view
through January 29, 2006. Currently on view, The Splendid Palette: Painting in France from Monet to Bonnard , featuring 14 extraordinary Impressionist and Modernist paintings, will continue its run through April 30, 2006.

There is a series of programs planned to enrich the visitors’ experience of these exhibitions. These workshops, lectures and gallery talks promise to entertain as well as enlighten. For more information about these events and the Frist Center’s exhibition schedule, the public is invited to visit the Frist Center website, www.fristcenter.org.
